WEGO History
The Women Empowerment Global Outreach is a non-profit corporation created in 2010 by Yara Anabtawi, Elizabeth Goryonova and Tamee Roberts Burkholder.
Mrs. Goryonova in her capacity at the World Trade Organization Utah brought the other two women together in 2010. The particular life experiences of each woman inspired each to seek out opportunities to assist women of the world individually. The particular synergy of the three women transformed an instant friendship into an organization.
With a keen sense of urgency in a potential violent economic climate, the needs to educate, empower and train women of the Middle Eastern regions emerged as the first focus of the new organization and several projects were immediately chosen in 2010 under the WTO banner. The Directors better honed their goals and abilities, and in January 2011, incorporated in the State of Utah as a non-profit. With Generous support from Ballard Sparh, a local law firm, nonprofit status was secured by August 2012.
A website was launched with generous support from a local web development agency and a focus on female refugees in Utah from Middle Eastern countries became the starting point for great things.
